I'm posting this in quite an excitable mood! I really feel I've learnt something from this drawing, which hopefully is going to affect my work from now on. Basically, the rule I've found is that as long as you get a face nailed pretty early in a drawing then you can be a lot looser with the body work.
The face is from photo reference of a model, and the body is just out of the blue. If you look at the marks they're actually pretty abstract. Value is what really defines the forms - it's pretty subtle, but I think I'm getting there...
