Dewalt Guns

Well, I thought a DeWalt weapons project might have some legs.

Here is the photo-chop follow up to my older 3D practice. I really enjoyed doing this. Just plugging things together - it's kind of like lego! Luckily the DeWalt catalog photography is mostly side profile, so no annoying perspective to deal with.

I think that the surfacing lends itself well to guns. Using pre-existing elements forces you out of normal solutions and shows up some really interesting shapes in this exercise.

I'm missing a heavy MG. Maybe another time.

There are 2 photographic components not from DeWalt...

DeWalt Pistol

Just been learning SketchUp. It's really nice once you get your head around the building mechanics.

I wanted to design something quite mechanical (which is what SketcchUp lends itself to), so I thought I'd do a hand gun.

As far as my thought process goes, I think we should always try and bring something new to a design style. A crossover is often a simple way of looking at a product in a new way, so a DeWalt handgun didn't seem a huge leap for the brand,

Munition Drones and Picket Deployment Sys.

Drones. Obviously a highly controversial issue with the old society under surveillance stuff - very scary.

I think the reaction to them as a weapon system is rather futile - Much like the reaction to the longbow in the middle ages. Really, we should press home any strategic advantage in the theatre of war. Our overall strategy of "killing for peace" may actually be the problem which is fueling insurgencies.

In terms of weapon systems I think they will develop a lot more over the years. Basically we are still using them as glorified aircraft. Here is a group system which has a much larger surveillance and targeting ability. Effectively intelligent mines which work together and hunt people down... I kinda wish I could un-think of this.

Overloaded

I'm off on holiday for two weeks, I'l ltry and post some doodles from the states, but won't have access to a 'puter much. In the mean time, here's a bunch of stuff I created for the USC Core Overload team.

Cold Shoulder

After that rather long blurb, here's a weapon designed to shoot ice spears!

Ray Guns

This should lower the tone a bit.

Silhouettes are an important bit of design language, these were generated using a brush made from a photo of a submarine. It lets you put down fairly abstract shapes without getting bogged down in detail. It has a certain amout of randomness buit into it, so it's more design by luck than judgment.

Brap Brap

Did a sketch of this and thought it had some legs. Here's a 3d. I get bored of modeling pretty quickly and revert back to photoshop. It could do with a few more details here and there, maybe some graphics, but the most of it is there.
